🍄 A New Season Is Growing at Vital Harvest Farms

Fresh mushrooms, new adventures, a Hiding Frog, and some exciting things ahead!

There is something special about the beginning of a new season on the farm.

Behind the scenes at Vital Harvest Farms, we have been BUSY. There have been grow blocks to prepare, mushrooms to harvest, products to make, plans to finalize, and plenty of ideas taking shape. Some days it feels like there aren't enough hours between sunrise and sunset—but seeing everything begin to come together makes it worth it.

And now, we finally get to share some of what we've been working on.

This season isn't just about growing more mushrooms. We're creating new ways for our community to experience them, learn about them, cook with them, grow them, and become a bigger part of what we're building here at Vital Harvest Farms.

🍄 The Grow Room Is Getting Busy

One of our favorite things about mushroom farming is that there's always something happening.

A grow room that looks quiet one evening can look completely different the next morning.

This season, we're growing a rotating selection of gourmet mushrooms including Italian Oysters, Pink Oysters, Lion's Mane, Freckled Chestnuts, and Shiitake.

Each has its own personality.

Oysters can explode into beautiful clusters. Lion's Mane develops into those incredible cascading white formations. Chestnuts are almost too pretty to harvest. And Shiitake…well, there is a reason people have loved them for generations.

Our goal is simple: grow beautiful, fresh mushrooms and get them onto local tables as quickly as possible.

But fresh mushrooms are only part of what we've been working on.

🌱 Something NEW Is Growing: The Vital Harvest Farms Mushroom Club

We're incredibly excited to introduce the Vital Harvest Farms Mushroom Club!

We wanted to create an easy way for people who love fresh mushrooms to receive them regularly while also becoming more connected with our farm.

Instead of wondering when the next harvest will be available, Mushroom Club members will have mushrooms set aside for them throughout the month.

We've created three membership options:

🌿 Farm Share — $40/month

Members receive 1 pound of fresh mushrooms every two weeks, for a total of 2 pounds per month.

Your share will feature a rotating selection of farm-grown mushrooms based on what's looking best at harvest time.

🍄 Mushroom Lover — $80/month

For the serious mushroom household!

Members receive 2 pounds every two weeks, for a total of 4 pounds of fresh mushrooms each month.

⭐ Mushroom Explorer — $100/month

This one is for people who want to experience a little more of what Vital Harvest Farms has to offer.

You'll receive 4 pounds of fresh mushrooms per month, plus a featured farm product.

That featured product might be dried mushrooms, mushroom powder, a tincture, a grow kit, or another mushroom surprise from the farm.

All three memberships are billed monthly and renew monthly. Pickup is available, and local delivery is available for an additional fee where applicable.

We especially love that the Mushroom Club gives us an opportunity to introduce members to varieties they might not normally pick up at a market.

You may join thinking you're an Oyster mushroom person and discover that Freckled Chestnuts become your new favorite!

🐸 Wait…What's This About a Hiding Frog?

If you've looked closely at the Vital Harvest Farms logo, you may have already noticed that mushrooms aren't the only thing hiding in there.

There's a little green fellow who has become part of the Vital Harvest Farms family.

And apparently, he doesn't like staying put.

Meet our Hiding Frog. 🐸

You'll start seeing him pop up in different places around Vital Harvest Farms—at events, around our displays, online, and perhaps in places you wouldn't expect.

When you visit us, look carefully.

You never know where the Hiding Frog might be.

We're going to have some fun with him this season, so keep following Vital Harvest Farms to see where he turns up next.

🍎 Our Next Stop: The Annual Fall Homestead Festival!

All this preparation is leading up to something we're really looking forward to.

Vital Harvest Farms will be at the 2026 Annual Fall Homestead Festival!

📅 Saturday, October 10 — 8 AM to 4 PM📅 Sunday, October 11 — 9 AM to 3 PM

📍 1535 NC Hwy 133Rocky Point, NC

The festival is being hosted by Out of Square Homestead and Notforgotten Primitive Antiques and promises to be a fun weekend for anyone who enjoys homesteading, farming, handmade goods, old-fashioned skills, and supporting local businesses.

There will be primitive antiques, vintage tools, cast iron, farmhouse décor, handmade soaps, homemade items, small farm animals, shopping, food, and more.

There will also be free classes covering subjects such as butter making, homestead first aid, trapping, rabbit processing, chicken first aid, chicken processing, composting, and beekeeping.

And yes—there will be food! The Fly'n Phille Food Truck will be serving throughout the day, including breakfast.

We're planning to bring plenty of mushroom goodness with us.

And, of course…

The Hiding Frog will be there. 🐸

Your mission is to find him.

🌿 More Than Mushrooms

As we've been preparing for this season, we've spent quite a bit of time thinking about what we want Vital Harvest Farms to become.

Yes, we grow mushrooms.

But we're building something bigger than that.

We want people to know where their food comes from. We want someone who has never cooked Lion's Mane to feel comfortable taking some home and trying it. We want families to experience growing mushrooms from one of our kits. We want people to learn about fungi instead of being intimidated by them.

And most importantly, we want to build relationships with the people around us.

That's why one phrase keeps coming back to us:

Real Mushrooms. Real Connections.

Because when you purchase something from a small farm, you're doing more than buying a product.

You're helping somebody buy the next bag of substrate.

You're helping keep another grow block going.

You're helping a local business attend the next market.

You're helping a vision

become something real.

And we appreciate that more than we can say.
